The Phone Book Survey

Wow!
I can't believe the response to the idea of having a phone book for bikers!

We only put up the survey two days ago, but the response has been amazing!
100% have responded that they want a phone book that includes riding club information and ride nights.
70% want a Bikers at Work section - for sales people and small businesses owners who ride.
80% have said they want a book that is 5 1/4" x 8 1/4"
100% have responded that they want their phone book mailed to them.

A phone book, just dedicated to Canadian Motorcycle, Motorcycle Related and Motorcycle Friendly Businesses seems to be something you, the readers want so....

Wanted - 3 or 4 people who don't mind doing sales calls.

Tools required:
Computer
Phone - with a good phone plan
Fax machine

Time Commitment Required:
3 to 4 hours a week for 3 months

We pay 11% commission for all finished ad copy

I you are looking for a great way to add a few bucks to the bike fund this might be it.
Drop me a line at bdbetty@gmail.com or phone me at 877-402-8892

Our goal is to print the first phone book for October 2007 - with the help of three or four people, we can meet that goal!

Merry Christmas from Our Red Deer Reporters!

Both Cindy and I would like to send our warmest Christmas wish to you. We hope the new year finds you well and happy.
It has been a good year for us, filled with lots of love. After moving to Red Deer and moving in with Cindy on April Fools Day, our new live together began. We are both getting excited about the wedding in May. Sorry we have not been in contact more, but we have busy living life. With holidays to Fairmont, U.S. Bike trips, Biker Build Off, and other Bike events we have been kept busy having fun. That is what life is all about.

We have a busy year ahead of us as well. Bike Shows in Jan, Wedding, Honey Moon in Hawaii, Grad for Adam in May, Biker Build Off in July, PartyLite Conference in Aug., Okanagan in Sept., and another bike trip somewhere. Of course I will have to take time to "play" with the new chopper coming in the spring, it is not the same as in the picture, but close.

See you in the New Year!!!
Best Wishes in 2007!

Barry & Cindy

A little winter fun

I have discovered a cool puzzle game. It came in a newsletter from Dell.

Thought I'd include it here for you to try. The object shovel that snow fast and uncover your presents!

We have another Winner!

We have been asking people to fill out the riders survey.
Our aim is to amass statistics on who bikers really are.

We have been giving away books to thank people.

This random draw saw Steve Brown from Bridgewater Nova Scotia take away a book from Shauna Beallie at Chromessentials called Sturgis Road Trip. It's a great full color, gloss paper coffee table book that will have you giggling and snickering all the way through.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out the surveys and we will be drawing for 2 more books from Shauna in the next few weeks......

Our Chosen Soldier Writes to us!!!!

I was so happy when we got this e-mail today! The picture of him never attached but we did get a picture of his bike.

Thanks very much for the three packages that I have received. I have been quite popular these past few days let me tell you.

I shipped a bunch of the stuff to the guys serving outside the wire where it is most needed. Of course, I kept a few favourites for myself!

The kleenex has come in handy as I have been sick for the past five days. Let me tell you I am sick of being sick! Yes, I can be a big baby when it comes to that.
Photo of the bike attached.

Thanks again for your support and generosity. The one photo is me on a logging road - not my best decision let me tell you...3 hours for 20 km...crazy!

I am looking fwd to heading home come February that is for sure. It's all good though.

Interesting Companies

Have any of you checked out the Canadian Companies who are advertising on the web site?

Rig Ragz is having an H2S Contest to win a touqe. They have some pretty cool clothing for the rigger who rides. http://www.rigragz.ca/

Dream Cycles has some very excellent products in their on line store. I spent a half hour snooping and their prices are very good. https://www.dreamcycles.net/onlinestore/

Fukken Wax looks like the kind of product a person should look into using - less time cleaning - more time riding! http://www.fukkenwaxcanada.com/

Check them out if you haven't already - I think you'll be glad you did.

Raz's Tattoo Studio - Opening Postponed

Raz's Tattoo was supposed to have their opening today but there were a few challenges that couldn't be overcome in time so it's been pushed back to December 9th.

I got a sneak peek of things to come and it's going to be an awesome shop!

One Good thing....

They have found the engine to the Mamba - it too is in pieces. It was found in a junk yard.

The people who stole the car and trailer obviously did not know what they had or that it would be absolutely useless to them. No one in the jet world would dare touch a J46 right now.

I was crew chief on that car for 5 years, I know what that car means to the fans, my daughter and my ex.

Hundreds and hundreds of hours of work lay ahead for Doug and his wife Jeannie......I feel for them. If you can help in any way please check the community alert for the pay pal button we have installed for them, and and all donations greatly appreciated - if you live in the Tampa area and have some spare time - help putting the Mamba back together will be needed as well........

A Piece of History Stolen - Your help sought

My ex husband's Jet Car - the Green Mamba was stolen last week. It was found last night, chopped into pieces. The chassis is in three pieces and the body work is in rough shape.
The J46 Westinghouse Power Plant is MISSING!
This car was not just my ex husband's "life force" - it was his only means of making a living.
Doug is an double below the knee amputee. Many will remember Doug as the pilot of the Green Monster Jet Car owned by Walt and Art Arfons. In 1966 Doug crashed the Monster and lost both legs below the knee. In 1968 he began running his own car - the Green Mamba and has done so for 29 years!
The loss of income is devestating enough, how is he going to replace the car to get his ability to earn an income back? Loosing that engine, let's put it this way - they haven't made the J46 for a very long time. They are rare and expensive these days.
Read the article linked below....
http://www.sptimes.com/2006/11/28/Tampabay/Man_sadden_over_loss_.shtml
It's Christmas time and Doug will be celebrating his 69th birthday on the 6th of December and I know I'm an ex wife and this may come off a tad wierd but - damned it all no one and I mean no one deserves to have their livelyhood stolen and destroyed - it's just plain wrong, not to mention he is my daughter's father, so, Suzie is going to do something up for the site with a pay pal donation button.

If any of you can help Doug and his wife Jeannie out, I'd be greatful.
If you live in the Tampa area and can lend a hand I know he'll need tons of help to get the race car re built in time for the rest of his show dates.
Doug and Jeannie can be contacted at: (813) 935-0793

There's not much else I can do but put it out there and ask the biker community to help out on both sides of the border -
Thanks,
BD Betty

Christmas subscriptions

Suzie will have the Christmas stocking stuffers subcriptions up soon.

You will be able to print off a gift certificate for the recipient so that if the first paper does not arrive before the holiday you will have something to tuck in their stocking.

Bikers Discount Club Cards

I have not been able to send out cards to new subscribers for the past 7 weeks as some wonderful human being stole my card and label maker along with the blanks.

We will be changing over to a new card format so patience please....

When you pay through pay pal you will be emailed a card to print off for yourself.
When you pay by mail or at biker events, you will be mailed out a card.

We should have that all working again by next Friday when we launch our new www.bustedknucklenews.com once that happens there will be a ton of changes and additions to both web sites to follow fairly quickly. I'm sorry for the delay in some of the new features but they are on their way. The coding and interfacing that has had to take place has been driving Suzie crazy but it sounds like we are almost there.

I will get cards out to everyone just as soon as I can.

A Postponement

I am sorry to announce that the Cougar Wear Saying Contest is being postponed until next year.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we are cancelling the contest for this year - I apologize to those who entered and voted in the first round.

The only Cougar Wear that will be available for sale will be the sayings we already have in our data base. None of the sayings submitted will be used. I apologize for the inconveniece but due to the circumstances we are facing with supply and marketing material production this is what we have to.

Once we have had the opportunity to discuss things with our partners (supplier & marketing company) we will send everyone who submitted a saying a letter outlining the situation and our remedies.

Thanks for your understanding - BD Betty

The Readers Survey

The survey you see will help the motorcycle community in the beginning of gathering statistics.
As you all know, everything the government does is statistic driven.

This survey has been in the printed form of the paper and will be available on the web site soon.

Speaking of the web site - it and the paper are going through some extensive upgrades and modifications.

Your patience and understanding through this next growth phase is - as always - hugely appreciated.

See you all next Saturday at the Edmonton Choptoberfest Swap!

Patrons of the business are advised that the store will reopen on Friday, 29 September 2006. As a result of this unfortunate event, The "Open House & Dyno Day" scheduled for Saturday, 30 September 2006 has been cancelled. Any new events will be announced at a future date.

Don't forget the Roadhouse in Rosedale this weekend

Jayne's throwing a party and when she roast a pig, well.....Good food, good people and great music, what a combo.

Jayne has this to say about the bash....

We've beat this route to death, but its a nice easy route. from the roadhouse to Delia from there down over the ferry to John's bar, from there to Newcastle and back to the roadhouse. About an hour after that we will have supper....the band will start at 8 p.m. till whenever. Cost for the poker run and supper is $20.00 and the tickets can be purchased at the bar. I am hoping this is an informal gathering so we can all get a chance to visit as we know this will be the last hurrahhh for most of us till next summer. We will do our best to find a warm place for everyone to sleep even if it means a foamie and a sleeping bag on the floor.

The Countdown is on

Well, the first Canadian Championship of Bike Building is less than 2 days away!

I'm nervous and excited! There is one dark spot in all of this and that is the Mayor of Grande Prairie and the Grande Prairie RCMP.

They are not happy that we are letting everyone wear their club riding gear, they have started posting signs about outlaw colors and making a fuss like we are all a bunch of hoodlums.....
Beaverlodge RCMP have just recently taken over the town of Wembley's policing duties and have had a very high presence in Wembley since they took over a little over a week ago.

I am asking you to be careful - please make sure your gear is legit and watch your throttle hand.
They are going to be out there in full force so DON'T take any chances - please!

I am posting the map of how to bypass Grande Prairie to avoid the worst of it, but remember - the police will be doing their jobs above and beyond because they don't like us, ride accordingly.

Other than that small fly in the ointment, mother nature seems to be smiling, and that's a good thing!
The Championship competition is going to be incredible with builders from New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the NWT, Alberta and BC competing! Chica, Tom Langton, Heather Ireland and the kids from the Bike Club arrive tomorrow, the press starts arriving tonight.....

Look forward to seeing everyone that can come, its gonna be a blast!

The Pastor's Ass

The pastor entered his donkey in a race and it won.
The pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again, and it won again.

The local paper read: PASTOR'S ASS OUT FRONT The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.

The next day, the local paper headline read:
BISHOP SCRATCHES PASTOR’S ASS

This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the pastor to get rid of the donkey. The pastor decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent. The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day:
NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.

The bishop fainted. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for$10.The next day the paper read:
NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10

This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild. The next day the headlines read: NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE

The bishop was buried the next day.

The moral of the story is, being concerned about public opinion can bring you much grief and misery and even shorten your life. So be yourself and enjoy life. Stop worrying about everyone else's ass and you'll be a lot happier and live longer!

Motor Home Parking At the Bike Show

Well - after a bit of a hiccup we can finally say that:
Any one wanting to pre book a camp site can now call Colleen Holler at 780 -766-2567
We now have the stalls staked and are good to go.

Please remember these are just stalls – there is no power.
Septic services are available through Country Pump Out for a small fee or at Sunset Park

See yah at the show!

Friday, August 18, 2006

So - did anyone notice?

Yah - the paper was only 10 pages. We didn't have enough advertisers for 12 pages and we had tons of info to try and get out.

They say necessity is the mother of invention. I thought ok - we have all of the toy runs coming up and all of these businesses that advertise in the business directories, why not a pull out you can pin on your cork board or stick on the fridge.

Makes for a great little phone directory and event guide.

I'd love to do something like that for each province....maybe one day.

Hope you all stay safe out there - ride smart.

Stolen Harley - Submitted by Cliff Brougham

I am trying to use the power of the internet to find my 2003 Harley Davidson Heritage Special that was STOLEN from my work parking lot today sometime after 2pm and before 3:30 from the Victoria Coast Guard Base. Please pass this along to everyone in your contact list if you would be so kind. I have had this motorcycle less than three weeks! Victoria isn't a very big place and if we get the word out quick enough it's just possible that I might recover the bike. I've included pictures, the license plate is K5 7273 and has a green DND sticker on the inside of the plate.

The bike also has studded leather saddle bags and lots of chrome. If anyone spots the bike, please call the police, thanks for your help and please, again, forward this email, as soon as you can, I'm not trying to start some crazy chain letter, but rather recover what has been stolen from me.

Links, tons of Canadian Motorcycle Group links!

I have spent the last few weeks doing some major research for our web site.
In all I have 244 motorcycle clubs, groups, associations and their chapters who have web sites to be added to our links section soon.

Of course, Suzie has gone riding for the weekend - so these can't be added to the site until next week - but man am I happy with the information I have hunted for!

I've been under the weather the last few days and as much as I want to go to the Ft. St. John Toys for Tots run - I can't - I can hardly hold myself up, much less a bike right now.
Sucks hard cause it's real nice out for a change.

Oh well, maybe next week. I'm going back to the couch and my blankie!

Slobs on big noisy hogs

My response to Mr. McKeen's article will appear in Thursdays paper.
It may not be what you expect but it will definately cause you to think.
Here's what he said:

Slobs on big, noisy hogs make life miserable
The Edmonton Journalby Scott McKeenPublished: Wednesday, August 02, 2006

Slobs ride hogs.Slobs ride hogs that rattle windows, awaken children and scorch neighbourhoods with sonic waves of industrial thunder. You blame the motorcycle for that hellacious, thumping roar? I blame the people on them. Narcissistic people. The kind of people who spit on sidewalks, butt into lineups and allow the door to slam in your face. In short, slobs.I can't count the number of times I've been on Whyte Avenue and experienced the two-wheel equivalent of an F-18 flying under the street lamps. I've heard countless complaints from people in downtown highrises about revving, roaring motorcycles.
Frankly, I'm sick of it. There are civic bylaws and provincial laws against excessive noise. But noise is considered a nuisance, not a crime. So the police enforce the laws when time and circumstance allow it -- in other words, almost never. In fairness, noise regulations, as written, are difficult to enforce. And the fines under the Highway Traffic Act, at $115, are not much of a deterrent.

Maybe it's time to change those laws.According to the Motorcycle and Moped Industry Council, Transport Canada sets noise limits on motorcycle manufacturers at a reasonable 82 decibels. But a University of Florida study tested a random sample of street bikes and found half were capable of 100 decibels. One bike hit 119 decibels. To put that in perspective, the ear-splitting volumes at Rexall Place during the Oilers' playoff run, with nearly 17,000 screaming fans, peaked at about 116 decibels. Motorcycles get even noisier when they're modified with aftermarket exhaust systems. Worse yet are the hack handymen who remove the guts of the stock mufflers, turning their bikes into moving heavy metal concerts. Some guys claim noise makes their motorcycles safer. There's an old saying in the biker community: loud pipes save lives. The adage is just an excuse for selfish stupidity.Flemming Kristensen, the chief motorcycle instructor with the Alberta Safety Council, says there's no advantage to noise. Being visible is important to safety. Being audible? Nope. You don't hear a loud bike coming, you hear it leaving. Too late by then. Motorcycle rider groups are not silent on this issue.

The American Motorcyclist Association, for example, has long opposed excessively noisy motorcycles. The association realizes that if the biker community doesn't voluntarily reduce noise levels, governments will step in. Already, a number of U.S. cities have proposed motorcycle bans because of excessive noise.Hob Murphy, the proprietor of Heritage Harley-Davidson in Edmonton, has been tackling the noise issue for years by talking to staff and clients. His firm does not sell loud aftermarket exhaust systems.Harley-Davidson, the company, is taking a progressive position against noise, too, says Murphy.
Harleys get blamed for being the noisiest bikes of them all. But the company's earliest advertising, at the turn of the 20th century, used the slogan Silent Grey Fellow.Motorcycle gangs changed the image of Harleys. Riding a hog made you an outlaw. And how do you act like an outlaw now, if you don't wear gang colours? Scrap the mufflers. Go loud.To be fair, Harley-Davidson gets a bad rap. Japanese and European manufacturers make motorcycles with earth-shaking V-twin engines, too. Their riders modify their bikes, too.The key, says Murphy, is in educating motorcyclists on the nuisance factor. Good idea. But I'd go further. We need to tell owners of loud, modified bikes the ugly truth. You, sir, look like a buffoon to us. You are a slob on a hog.For the record, I'm not against motorcycles. Most riders are good people.

I spent a recent Saturday afternoon cruising on the back of a friend's new motorcycle. Loved it.Some other friends own Vespa scooters, which are just motorcycles for hipsters, lads and metro sexuals. But even some of them modify their exhaust systems. Sigh. For the record, I am no fan of regulating people to death. Freedom is precious. But when people abuse those freedoms, we are forced to consider limits. The world is changing. We pack more and more people into close, urban spaces.

To get along, people must respect the needs of others. If not, communities will rise up. Laws will change. Fines will increase. Motorcycles will be seized. You've been warned, slobs. Silence yourselves. Or you will be silenced.

I HOPE YOU GUYS UP NORTH AREN'T GONNA TAKE THIS

The Brad Brain Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce that its second annual motorcycle toy run will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006. The event will begin at the North Peace Recreation Centre, registration beginning at 9:00 am. All proceeds from this event will go to the Salvation Army’s Family Programs and the Christmas Hamper Program. The Salvation Army has taken over the Christmas Hamper Program, and we hope to give them a great start to the Christmas season.

The Run will leave Fort St John at 10:00. Our first stop is Iron Cycle, 10215 13th St. Dawson Creek, where riders from the South Peace will have an opportunity to join the run. The cost to participate in the event is $20.00 plus a new, unwrapped toy. The entry fee includes the barbeque.

New to this year’s event will be a Bug Run. For an additional $20 donation to the Salvation Army participants will be given a “bull’s eye” to fix to their bike. Prizes will be given for closest to the bull’s eye, and for the biggest splat.

All proceeds from this event support the Salvation Army and all of the good work they do for the community.

The Brad Brain Charitable Foundation and the Salvation Army would like to express their appreciation to all the supporters of the event.

Another feature that is in the works and will be ready to launch soon: The dealer retailer locator service. This will be a great tool for riders as we will be able to find the goods and services we are looking for in a very easy manner.
The locator service is just one in many steps toward creating our very own Bikers Phone book which we hope to release in
18 – 24 months.

Freecycle

This was submitted by Classy Rider - a few of us have checked it out and it seems pretty cool!

Here's what she sent:

We have newly discovered a GREAT internet website that enables you to get things for free and get rid of the clutter in your home. This site is called FREECYCLE! (www.freecycle.ca) When you go to the site, you simply click on your country, and find the group closest to you! All you need is a yahooID (which is free to get) and then you are in! I set up my account to not send me any email as I check the site when I have time and this way my junk mail box doesn't get filled up with all the notices. In the last week, we have gotten a swing for on the deck of our new home, TONS of kids toys, found out about free stuff at garage sales, a high chair and coupons! People are giving away almost anything you can think of.The purpose of the site is to eliminate people throwing things in the garbage that could be reused....you are not allowed to ask for money for your items and no one asks you for money.

Most of the communication is done by email. Most times, people leave the items on their porch and you just go and get it!

It's all coming together!

The show is shaping up beautifully.
I have a new office administrator, hopefully no one offers her more money and I can keep her a while!
Glad to see that WyzWmn is back on line! I don't know about the rest of you but I sure enjoy her wit!

No one has donated any airmiles to us, but we are bringing the kids from the Bike Club to Wembley and taking them on a tour of the NAIT Fairview M/C training facilities.
It's been rough but the kids raised enough money to get 5 of them here and I had enough aeroplan miles to get 2 of them here. Mr. Mazzy's ticket was purchased by Toys for Big Boys in Moncton so - they are coming!

Peter Jonsson of MCM and Kopteri Magazines in Sweden & Finland is confirmed as is TBear of American Iron and The Horse Magazines!

Our Canadian press is set to come so Builders - we are providing you with your opportunity to wow the cameras!
