BIG LIVES and the women who live them! Meet Liz Jansen

Leader, visionary, life & business coach, rider trainer, writer, author; Liz Jansen is all of these things and so much more!

At 61 years old this coming May, Liz who has been riding since age 16, has had a life and career that many look at with awe.

I am one of those women who is inspired by Liz.

Liz started off her professional life as an RN, and when a position in Occupational Health opened up she took it.  That position eventually translated into a Human Resources career, and it is there where she learned and mastered many skills that would one day fuel a new career path. She enjoyed the challenges and issues the position offered, but over time she began to feel restless and unfulfilled.

Liz's marriage had changed too, or as she reflects, maybe it was her perception of it that change, either way between home and career, she found that her soul felt empty.

Having come from a Mennonite background, her spirituality is strong and as she began to look inward for the answers she sought, she found that one thing kept coming back to her time and time again.  "Our lives cannot be in balance until we learn what purpose it is we are here on the earth to fulfill."

She realized that the restlessness, the emptiness she felt, was caused by the fact that her purpose was calling her. And she decided to go and meet it.

Within a span of 8 months she left her job and her husband and then embarked on a two month motorcycle trip across North America.  Liz expressed that it was as if her Honda Spirit had helped her reclaim her soul. It was not just that Honda Spirit and the adventure or the time on the road that inspired her, Liz began putting together the connection between motorcycle and spirituality, motorcycle and empowerment, motorcycle and mental strength and she wanted others to learn the power of that motorcycle and we aren't talking horsepower.

When she returned from that trip, Liz realized she had been living a life that was filled with a false sense of security and decided to invest some time and energy on herself.

She knew what her purpose was, and now she had to figure out how to fulfill that purpose.

She founded Trillium Motorcycle Tours & Events, hired a personal coach and began refining herself and her skills.

Today Liz is the author of 14 books/Ebooks, a life and business coach and a senior motorcycle instructor at Humber College.  She served on the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada board as a board member and chair person from 2006 to 2014 and she has facilitated many events for women in motorcycling.

A gifted speaker, Liz loves coaching be it one on one or in large groups. She imparts the wisdom of the road to her audience and teaches them to embrace the teachings of the motorcycle.

Liz's series of books called "Life Lessons from Motorcycles: Where the Road Meets Spirit" are the foundation for her training courses; How to Stop Dreaming and Start Doing", but she is probably best known as the author of "Women, Motorcycles and the Road to Empowerment"

Liz suffered a crash on a gravel road last fall. She was at the very beginning of what was to be a one year trip to South America. On that fateful day she was planning on visiting Blackfoot Crossing and Namaka in Southern Alberta. She wanted to visit the farming community her dad had grown up in.

Her trip to South America was to be a part of a journey to learn more about indigenous peoples and
their cultures.  When the crash happened, Liz, a highly experienced rider knew this was a message, that something about her expectations for this trip were out of balance.  She expressed that the crash has been a blessing in disguise for it has forced her to be still and introspective and she's had time to absorb all of the kindness and blessings others offered to her during her convalescence. She needed to slow down, take time for herself and re-examine things. She refers to her crash as a "Course Correction".

Her shoulder which was severely injured is healing but may require a further surgery before she is able to gain full mobility in it.

BUT

Her soul is becoming restless for her motorcycle, in over 45 years of riding she has only ever spent 2 years of her life without a bike.  Her motorcycle is truly her conduit, it keeps her focused and centred and she realizes how important that is in her life.

"The true beauty of motorcycles, as any rider knows, is that they connect you with Spirit and ultimately with yourself," says Liz and she should know because she has traversed hundreds of thousands of miles by motorcycle.

In spite of the course correction she finds herself on, Liz says life has never been better and that she loves being in service to others, doing the work that fills her soul, that allows her to use her unique gifts to empower other people to truly live their lives.

"There is nothing more rewarding in the world than knowing your gifts and talents are of benefit to others" says Liz.

Her advice to everyone who feels like they aren't living the life they were meant to?
"We become aware of our strengths and gifts by pushing out of our comfort zone. So get out of your comfort zone and find out who you really are and what you are truly capable of!"

Liz is another inspiring example of a woman who is living a BIG LIFE!

If you are blessed to be living where you can ride, please ride like everyone around you is blind and cannot see you!

The controversy, an update

The Steel Horse Sisterhood Summit, is by all accounts an amazing opportunity for women to learn, grow and share.  No one can dispute that.

I have heard story after story from women who expressed how much fun they had, riding to the event, making new friends at the event and learning new skills and techniques from the speakers to make their lives better, richer.

No one can take that away from the event.

But, like the Sturgis North/Canada events here in Canada, when a promoter does not conduct an event like a business and put key people in place and let them do their job, things can get derailed and cause a ton of hurt and loss. It does not matter what the motivation is, be it greed or one of absolute sincerity and genuine desire.

In the case of Sturgis North 2011, 2012 and Sturgis Canada 2014, there were many suppliers who never got paid.

From the 2011 event, Techlectric in Salmon Arm/Lloydminster never got paid for their bill for supplying the electrical generators etc., and as a result the company ended up shutting down their Salmon Arm office.

Blackburn Construction did not get paid for their services and that's another hefty bill over $50,000.
The man who lent Ray Sasseville the money to start Sturgis North has a judgement for over $60K that he has been unable to collect on. In total there were at least 17 suppliers who never got paid and that does not take into account the people who never got booth refunds or lent Ray money.  Many of these people never bothered to sue either because they didn't want to throw good money after bad so they licked their wounds and walked away. Many didn't have the funds left to sue even if they were inclined to.

There is story after story like that about all three of Mr. Sasseville's events.

The 2012 event at the Vernon Motoplex owned by Okanagan Aggregates for example, they are still trying to collect on over $400,000 in bad debt. The tee shirt supplier got stung for around $75 grand.

In 2014, it is reported that a security company did not get paid in full, bands did not get paid in full, that the Legion did not get paid, a local hotel did not get paid.

Did the attendees have fun? Oh yeah, like any ride in event the riders, in spite of the confusion and disorganization of the event hosts, the rider still had fun.

Every event, at the end of the day, is about the attendees and what they make of it.

That does not change the reality for the businesses and individuals

who are left out of pocket.

The man in question, Ray Sasseville, has sued me for pulling together his history and past along with 6 others in a shotgun nuisance suit.  You read that right, he sued 7 of us in one suit.  He even sued a non profit! 2 of the defendants have had their case dropped, the City of Sicamous and the Mayor of Sicamous.  5 of us, including the Sicamous Chamber of Commerce are still trying to get things dropped as the man who initiated the suit has quit communicating with lawyers.
The case is in effect, dead now although still on record.

I did not have money for a lawyer and turned to the community that I have been living in,working in and volunteering in for many a year and asked for help.  I got that help. Because many people know how hard I work for the riding community. I have a proven track record. I got the help because people understood that I had done nothing wrong. I had shared documented facts, given him his opportunity to say his piece on more than one occasion - hell I had even sponsored the event in the beginning because I could see the vision.

Sadly there is a big difference between vision and execution.

The man in question, Ray Sasseville is awaiting judgment in his second BC Securities hearing and goes to trial over a huge lawsuit in Arizona, that is, with costs somewhere over 1 million dollars in value. That happens in April of this year.

So you see the fact that people have fun at an event, that they truly enjoyed the company of their fellow riders, can mean very little to the people who in some cases are left out of pocket for thousands and thousands of dollars. Money they worked hard for.

The single biggest concern I personally have over the summit, is the event management and by that I mean the ability of Joan Krenning to do this job and do it well for many years to come. Its hard, hard work putting on a successful event. It takes a ton of dedicated people. It takes great business acumen.

In case after case, I have found people who invested time, effort, money and supplies with Joan in her many businesses (13 that I know of) that have come away feeling used and betrayed.

Those who are willing to tell their story publicly do so because they believe that they are aiding in preventing from others being hurt.

I spoke with her former employee and investor John Hintz and he gave me this statement to use publicly: "Joan is a classic grifter. She is a scam artist, her employees in Madison would make a mad dash to the bank to cash checks. If you were slow, you didn't get paid that week. She would have to use other peoples credit to conduct business. She does it all under the guise of her religion. She is not a person you want to be associated with. She's uses people and discards them when they are no longer of use to her."

Valerie Hirsch, for a brief period in time was hired by Joan because of her skill in design.
After witnessing people she knows get hurt, Valerie got out and she now has her own company.
In response to a gal named Marcia who felt my blog article on Joan was character assassination Valerie wrote this response yesterday:

Marcia, if it was your money that was stolen, I KNOW you'd have a different response. I admire Belt Drive Betty for standing up against CRIMINAL behavior. It is not as simple as you make it. I know because I witnessed the theft of monies from John Hintz who was her partner, and who she took his $15,000 investment and fired him after 6 weeks. In those 6 weeks, he wrote $100,000 worth of business for her, and he saw $0 of those commissions. She cited that they didn't see "eye to eye". Being that the documents of the stock that he bought into the company were phony, he had to take her to court. He won for both the investment and the commissions earned. As with anything in court, it is almost impossible to collect. Again, look at the Wisconsin Circuit Court Webpage to see this FACT. You don't know how many people she has done this to, which is obvious. It is time to call a thing a thing and a thief a thief. As far as anyone who claims their intentions under a "faith" is not a get out of jail free card. One has to be very careful in this day and age of citing "religion" for any of their causes. I think everything we have seen going on with "religion" overseas bares that fact over and over again. Check out ISIS if you need a reminder dear. I also witnessed another "partner" put a second on his house to the tune of $30,000, which he never saw again and was also dismissed. This article is filled with additional facts that don't add up to a creditable person with integrity in question, and most importantly hurts the intent of those person(s) who do conduct themselves with transparent truth and integrity. This has nothing to do with riding. It is about misrepresentation, theft and tax evasion of which are all cited and proven here. What more do you need? I applaud this article as a woman business owner who fights the fight everyday to be in this place and who pays her/and company taxes every day to have the country that we live in. That's the bottom line dammit, and no one is ever going to have this kind of thing to say about me or my company ever! That's my pride and patriotism front and centre and anything less is not acceptable to say the least.  Valerie

There are others who fear reprisal from the women's riding community and rightly so.
They will go to court if called on to speak to character and historical patterns and the like, but they'd rather not speak out publicly, fearing for their livelihoods and fearing the verbal abuse and backlash of other women.

Case in point, I have been attacked by people stating that my article was nothing but character assassination or that I had bias going in and only found the bad stuff out about Joan because that's all I wanted to find.

If that was the case, why did I give her my list of questions so she could prepare?

I have been waiting on records to verify different claims Joan has made about her life to see if I could get ANY real insight into her.  I am waiting on information from the Loveland Library research department and am told that it can take weeks and months to go through the microfiche records.
But I have not stopped looking.

Yesterday for example, I learned that Joan and the man I believe to be her first husband, a navy man, who after 31 years of service as an AE1 and who did at least one tour in Viet Nam and a tour in the Azores, died while she was in county jail for pot possession.  She was arrested on August 28th, 1989 and her husband died on September 11th, 1989.  The previous year, they had lost the Buckhorn Tavern that they had owned from April 14th of 1986 to October 18th, 1988 when Allied Mortgage foreclosed on them.

I can only imagine what that much loss must have been like for her, with two small boys to raise.
Her son Matthew was born in July of 83 and Ryan in March of 87.

From that point on in her life, it appears that she has made one bad business decision after another.
There is no way for anyone to actually understand Joan's motivations behind the many bad situations and decisions that have plagued her over the course of her life.

BUT, Joan's apparently bad business decisions appear to have continued to today's date.

As recently as November of 2014, Joan's partners in DesignWraps Brands LLC and Inc. decided it was time to pull the plug on the business.  Reportedly $100,000 of investors money and countless hours of time and effort are gone. Those partners are now wrapping things up with the IRS and preparing their documents with their lawyers to launch litigation.

Joan however, is already back in business as Design Wrap Brands Inc. and has a new partner, Sara Boyer Little. She is using the same photos, web site, phone number etc. as she and her former partners shared.  She has reportedly been using the same data base to contact former customers and let them know she is still in business.

The only thing her most recent set of former partners/investors could tell me because of the pending litigation, is that they never sold any assets of the company to Joan. The only assets that had been sold were fabric, and that was sold to another apparel company and the funds were used to pay off debt.

So whose truth do you believe?

The many people who claim that Joan is untrustworthy because they lost money, time and effort?
OR - Joan's truth as delivered through her blog?

I know this much, there is no such thing as a perfect person.
Not me, not you who are reading this or anyone else for that matter.
We all have our baggage and stories. It's called life.

There is a reason, that long before I took steps to "investigate" things, there were rumblings and whispers of discontent. Shoot the messenger, the one that countless people have come to and said please, help us...

There is a reason that these people reached out to me and I want you think about that.

It does not matter that I have been as fair minded as I can be in sharing this sad story, there will always be those who will want to shoot the messenger. So be it, I have big shoulders and a community behind me that knows my motivations are simple.

Give people the tools and information they need to do their due diligence.
Making solid decisions in business is tough enough even when you do your due diligence.
Once you are presented with the facts, the only thing any one of us can do is follow our core values, heart and gut.

Only you can make the right choice for you.

The summit is a business.

It is a non profit business and it needs to be run with utmost transparency if it is taking in public money as donations.

Run by the right team of people, the summit has every chance to create jobs, bring women together, help women in business connect with their consumer and empower women in the riding community.

My one burning question is, although Joan may be the founder,  have the vision, the dream, can she execute that dream without hurting others through bad business decisions? I guess only time will tell.

I can't wait for tomorrow when I can bring you a story of strength, endurance and empowerment in my next instalment of BIG LIVES and the women who live them...tomorrow you will meet Liz Jansen!

Have a great day everyone, and if you are blessed to live where you can be riding, please ride like everyone around you is blind and cannot see you.

UPDATE:

The cheque to the Ride for Kids was unearthed by one of Joan's people and sent to us.
Not sure why the executive director couldn't find the donation.

The Summit happened in May and the cheque is dated for August and wasn't cashed until October
so that could be the problem.

Perhaps he was not looking for the right date range.
One mystery solved? When I send them the copy of the cheque well know.
I sent the cheque for the charity to confirm and they have confirmed that they did cash the cheque copy I was given.

UPDATE:

Apparently we have one of those wild Canadian way VS American way things are done, going on and perhaps it is why I have faced a few challenges getting information!

You see the cheque that was sent to me was dated 06/08/14 and cashed 06/10 14
In the US that means June 6th and June 8th, in Canada that would read August 6th and October 6th!

UPDATE:

OK now I m really confused.  I got a copy of a cheque made out to the Road Guardians.

The date 11/03/14  according to the person who sent it to me, they did intact get the cheque in November.  The cheque was not from the Steel Horse Sisterhood, but in the Memo area says RE: Steel Horse Sisterhood - the cheque is from Oklahoma! So I am confused, very confused...
So yes they got a donation, but how that donation came to be is what is of concern; coming from Oklahoma, signed by a guy named Phil, on behalf of the Steel Horse Sisterhood, 6 months after the event and 3 months after the donations issues arose.

A summit for women riders & the controversy surrounding its founder

Over the last several months there has been a lot of controversy brewing on social media, surrounding Joan Krenning; founder of the Steel Horse Sisterhood Charities and the Steel Horse Sisterhood Summit.

I decided to look into the situation to see if I could find out the facts, the truth.

Now getting at the truth in this kind of story is not always easy. Life is not always black and white and there can be a lot of grey area between facts and truth. I call that grey area the soft facts, the emotions that drive a person to the decisions they make, after all we are human beings who deal from emotion most times.

Several people who have done business with Joan in the past have come to a place where they are angry and becoming vocal about how she has treated them, how she has conducted herself. Because of their previous dealings with her, many have come to a place where they question her motives on many levels. They have seen a pattern and they are not liking it.

There are those who are staunch defenders of Joan, who see her as a devout Christian woman with pure intent, someone who has turned their life around and there are others who see her as a snake oil salesman who could charm you out of your bank account.

The defenders say the detractors are just jealous and the detractors say the defenders are naive and looking to be hurt and disillusioned.

They either love her or hate her.

Who is Joan Krenning, really, and why should we women riders here in Canada care?

Joan is the founder of the Steel Horse Sisterhood Charities and the Steel Horse Sisterhood Summit an event in Loveland Colorado that is meant to bring women riders together. A small number of Canadian women attended the first event.

After having done countless hours of research, and interviewing many people, I am still not sure I understand who Joan Krenning really is.

Initially when I asked her for an interview regarding the rather ugly situation that is brewing on social media, she had agreed to it but insisted she wanted it conducted by email and included two other people in the emailed response to the interview request.

I said that I wanted the interview on video, that it was to be just her and I, and I presented her with a list of questions that I intended to ask so that she could prepare. I assured her the video would not be aired. I also explained to her that the interview and her answers to my questions might bring up other questions for which there would be no way to prepare. (The list of questions I wanted to cover is in the two photos to the left)

Why did I want the interview on video? Simply put, body language. It is one of the biggest ways we communicate and often tells us more about the direction we need to ask questions in order to get at the truth, better than reading words ever could.

Sadly, after initially agreeing to the interview, Joan has now declined the interview pleading that she is too busy preparing for the Summit to take time out of her day to have her side of the story heard.

Joan has, from what I can see, been getting very bad advice on how to handle the questions and concerns that people have.

So be it.

This article only deals with the paper trail of facts and the experiences that others have had with her.
There will be no soft facts presented, and by soft facts I mean the governing emotions that result in the decisions people make. (IE: a battered woman refusing to testify against her abuser because of fear of reprisal etc...)

I write this piece so that those who are considering doing business with this woman, or attending/speaking at her event can ask themselves the right questions to determine if doing business with her, if aligning their brands with hers and being seen as supporters of her are right for their businesses and themselves.

Only they can make those decisions.

The story of the Joan Krenning/Steel Horse Sisterhood Summit controversy begins with her trip across the USA.

Publicly this ride was supposed to be a 36 month long mission to promote American Made goods and the US Constitution.
At the time of her departure, she was founder and part owner in DesignWraps Brands LLC out of Arizona and had three other partners.

There are those who are very disturbed about many things that transpired during what turned out to be her 20 month long sales trip.

From people who supplied her with products for her motorcycle, to some who promoted her and her trip, to those who housed her at various periods, not to mention some of the people who ultimately ended up funding that trip, the stories have been rather disconcerting.

The image on the left is a message from Joan to her former partners claiming she needs $3,000 a month of financial support while she is on the road if she stays with friends for 15 days of the month.  It also clearly identifies that Joan's goal for her ride was to promote her company, it was not about any patriotic or spiritual mission.

Joan calls herself a patriot, someone who strongly supports her country.

She says she is a woman who has created American jobs since she was in her early 20's and started her first business Rags to Riches. She calls herself a Christian and is very vocal about her religious beliefs.

The only glimpses into Joan, in her own words, that we have, are her various blogs and Facebook postings.

(This blog posting on the left has been deleted in the last few days)

Her Lady Road Dog Blog has some interesting insights to who she is: http://ladyroaddog.com/blog/

Is Joan any of the things she says she is?

Without benefit of her telling her side of the story, the facts appear to contradict much of what she claims.

As far back as I have been able to search on her, Joan Krenning has a history of not paying her Department of Work Force Development bills with the state of Wisconsin. She also has a history of not paying her Department of Revenue bills with the Government of Wisconsin.

To see her history visit: http://wcca.wicourts.gov

American Taxes are handled far differently from Canadian taxes.

In the US, when an individual files their taxes and it is discovered that the employer has not remitted their employees state withholding taxes, both the state and the individual sue the company and it's directors/owners to recover the funds owed.

In the state of Wisconsin, individual civil cases fall off the record if not renewed every 5 years but government warrants never expire unless they are paid in full.  If payments are being made to the state for those taxes it is noted in the documentation either as a garnishee or as a payment program or so I am led to understand.

As you look at the documents on the Wisconsin Circuit Court access site, Closed does not necessarily mean that the plaintiff recovered their money, that may also mean that the person never renewed their case. Filed only means they have not been able to serve her papers or in the case of a bench warrant, apprehend her.

Bench Warrant
I mention this, as there is an open bench warrant, issued in Dane Country Wisconsin on August 20th, 2004 for Joan Schulenberg of Madison Creek Designs, for failing to appear.

So why would the Government of Wisconsin not be able to serve her? Why were they not able to arrest her?

Well, from what I can gather by talking to officials in each government department, they tried serving her on several occasions, as well they attempted to execute the arrest warrant on her before she moved from Wisconsin, but were unsuccessful in doing so and consequently, the tax warrants and bench warrant still exist.

During this time Joan was married to a man that she was also in business with, Bruce A Schulenberg, their divorce became final on September 15, 2005.

The paper trail suggests that Joan moved to Canada sometime in 2006 and that she began living with a Canadian at that time. They married in March of 2007.

What is most interesting about her moving to Canada is the fact that Joan is a felon with a criminal charge for pot possession back in 1989, (see document on left below).

She did 90 days in county for that charge and it should have made her ineligible for entry to Canada.

She does not deny this, in fact she has her dates wrong and she embellishes the story declaring she turned 35 in prison, (see picture on right).

County jail and prison are two very different things!

One is left to wonder how she managed to get across the border and the only theories that I have been able to unearth is that she used one of her 25 or so aliases or she has obtained a pardon that I cannot find anywhere.

On July 27th, 2012 Joan filed for divorce from her Canadian husband claiming they had lived separately since March 15th, 2012.  During that time, she stayed with some ladies who befriended her as she was virtually homeless.

It was during this time in her life that she decided to start her "GLORY US-A FREEDOM RIDE" tour to promote patriotic spending and proclaimed herself publicly as "The Lady Road Dog". She claims she was dubbed that by some guy after she told him about a long road trip she had undertaken, however, none of her former business colleagues or former associates recall her ever being known by that handle before early 2013. Myself included. I have known Joan since the Vancouver bike show in 2011 and Lady Road Dog was not what she was known by at that time.

As of right now, she stays with her mother some times, with friends in Loveland Colorado and various places along the road but she does not have what you would call a fixed address.

I "spoke" with her former Canadian husband briefly by private message. He expressed that he was raised that if you have nothing nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all and since he had nothing nice to say on the topic of Joan, he'd reserve comment.  Fair enough, divorces are painful and personal. He wanted nothing to do with talking about her, and asked me to protect his privacy.

What I do know from speaking with those who knew Joan during her marriage to the Canadian is that Joan had worked as a sales rep for his apparel business. After having read their divorce papers, I truly understand why the man has nothing good to say.

In the divorce papers she was seeking interest in the business, the house she had shared with him, his RRSP's and his pension.  I do not as of yet have substantiation of what the final decree, if any, has allowed.

Because her first husband, Darvin Krenning and her second husband, Philip Chain have both passed, I was unable to determine what ended their marriages, death or divorce.

I have not been able to locate her third husband, Bruce A Schulenberg who was also in business with Joan, but it was their company Madison Creek Designs that has wracked up a lot of the DWD and Department of Revenue warrants.

It appears from the paper trail that Joan and her then husband each have tax warrants, however many that are in her former husband's name have been withdrawn. In Joan's case however, the most recent warrants that are in her name personally are for $25,815.15 with DWD in 2010 and the 2010 Department of Revenue warrant is for $29,590.99.

In fact I have located information on civil judgements against her as Joan Krenning from 1992 to 1998 and as Joanie Chain in 1994-1996. I also found judgements in 2000, under the name Joanie Krenning.

Beginning in 2001 there are also civil claims against her under the names of Joanie/Jonnie/and Joan E. Schulenberg and going on under the variations of her Schulenberg name until 2010, with one under the name of Joan Krenning thrown into the mix, in 2006.

The other companies that have debts with both the DWD and Dept. of Revenue in Wisconsin are Clear Simplicity Inc and Design Wraps.  There is a direct tie to Clear Simplicity Inc and that I found from a 2005 case that remains with an open warrant for over $5,000 with the DWD. (Department of Workforce Development) that ties it Design Wraps.

Clear Simplicity - Design Wraps tie in
Now with Clear Simplicity Inc, somehow her son, Matthew Krenning, ends up involved around 2005.

On top of all of the DWD and Revenue Wisconsin warrants from 2010 and back, there are tax warrants from 2012 and 2013 for Clear Simplicity Inc, the company that Joan and her son Matthew are involved in.

There are a number of DWD and Department of Revenue warrants in his name, one is for $48K + dollars and in some of the documents, the address is the same as on some of Joan's warrants, 921 Walsh Rd. in Madison WI which again shows the two companies as tied together.

Without the soft facts, the hard paper trail suggests that Joan is a woman who has gone from marriage to marriage, left the country to either avoid jail time or get married or both and has left much debt behind. Debt predominantly surrounding the non payment of employees commissions and their withholding taxes.

So far, I am not seeing where the jobs this patriotic American created over the history of her various businesses has actually created any meaningful American jobs or benefited the American economy in any way.

In June of 2013 Joan applied for a trademark for the Steel Horse Sisterhood but that applications has since been abandoned. See right.

The links I originally posted timed out apparently so the screenshot to the right replaces the first link - the link below takes you to the trademark search page.

She also applied for the trade mark Lady Road Dog at the same time, on the same date which has also been abandoned: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=4804:hhv63e.1.1
Search Lady Road Dog

She has applied for charitable status for her newly registered Steel Horse Sisterhood Charities.

BUT according to IRS rules, if I am reading them right, the fact that she has state tax warrants out on her will prevent her from getting that status, in the mean time the IRS is 3 years behind in approving or disallowing charitable status.

In the state of Colorado where she has applied for non profit status and filed her federal forms to become a 501 (c)(3), it does not matter that she has a criminal record. She can still have a non profit.

The way Joan has set up this non profit, she is to benefit from the monies left over after dissolution as CEO, the other members of her board that are registered in Colorado get paid behind her. Then the creditors then any charities she has promised funds to.

She recently announced on Facebook who her new board was, but those names have not yet been reflected in her filings on line. One of those people, the treasurer appears to be her sister who lives in Kansas, and another, LeAnn Illingworth is the person whom Joan stays with and lives at the address filed for the non profit. I have not as of yet found information on the others involved.

TC Conrad - Executive Director
Dawn Lee - Vice President
Jan Peterson - Treasurer
Debra Teplitz - Secretary
LeAnn Illingworth - Board Member

Her new boyfriend, Charles Guthrie is a veteran who reportedly has cancer. He is listed on the new Steel Horse Sisterhood Charities paperwork with the Government of Colorado.  He lives in Virginia.
He is not listed as part of the BOD as you can see.

This screen shot comes from her first application that included the articles of incorporation.
The articles of incorporation have not been amended even though the non profit business has seen two revisions. (Both on the 6th of January of 2015)

One of the latest and biggest bones of contention that some of Joan's detractors have involves her first summit in 2014.

Donations to her charities were first announced as $8,000, then as $5,000 and then as $4,500.

People are asking which amount is the real amount and why such a discrepancy but no answers have been forthcoming.

There are rumours and innuendo, but no actual facts as to why there is such a great disparity in amounts. I am pursuing those, but that will take time.

I spoke with Craig from Realities for Children and the Ride for Kids, and he expressed, after having looked into the donations, that they never received any donation not for $500 or for $135, at least not one that he was able to find - not in the name of Joan Krenning or in the name of the Steel Horse Sisterhood Charities or the Steel Horse Sisterhood Summit.

I did speak with a representative of Grace After Fire and was told that they received a donation, but the amount wasn't disclosed as the lady I spoke with, Lisa Skier, was in her car on the way to the airport and her vacation.  I have not contacted Helping with Horsepower as I figure if Laura Klock is going to continue on at the Summit as a guest speaker and a vendor, then she must have gotten the said donation. I have not, as of the time of writing, gotten a call back from the Road Guardians and so I have no idea if they have gotten a donation.
I have been unable to find which Optimist Club she donated to.

The latest thing to have transpired that has also raised the eyebrows of many people in the motorcycle industry was the closing down of her partnership in DesignWraps Brands LLC out of Arizona and DesignWraps Brands Inc.

There was a company letter sent out informing their customers, mostly Harley-Davidson dealerships, that DesignWraps Brands LLC & Inc were no longer in business.

Then there was another letter sent out later from Joan under a new company name, Design Wrap Brands Inc. stating that she is still in business.

No one from the original DesignWraps Brands co's would talk to me very much about the situation because of pending litigation but I did learn this much:
That Design Wraps Brands LLC & Inc haven't even been officially closed as of yet, although the paperwork is pending. (I have already found information on a new company called Design Wrap Brands Inc out of Oklahoma.)

It was confirmed for me by her former partners in Design Wraps Brands LLC & Inc that they did not sell their company, its proprietary marketing or intellectual materials or any other information and that no material possessions of the company were sold to this new Design Wrap Brands Inc in Oklahoma.

None of the former partners are involved in the newly formed company except Joan and she apparently has a new partner, a gal named Sara Boyer Little.

Catalogue 2014
Maybe it's just my tired old eyes that aren't working quite right, but it appears that the marketing materials from Design Wrap Brands Inc are using the exact same images as the marketing materials created for/by DesignWraps Brand LLC in Arizona.

The name is almost identical except that the S in Wraps has been dropped and there is a separation in the words Design and Wrap!

Here is the link to the new company, Design Wrap Brands online catalogue:

http://www.designwraps.com/catalog/

Note the web site address as well: http://www.designwraps.com

The web site address is the same now as it was when the company was DesignWraps Brands LLC/Inc.

She appears to using the Riders Wraps term which came from DesignWraps Brands LLC/Inc marketing and the phone number being used for the new company is the same as for the old company. The use of these intellectual and proprietary marketing materials, including the web site domain, without benefit of payment to her former partners would, I assume, be part of the pending litigation that her former partners say is coming.

When those documents go public, I will be looking hard to see if that is in fact the case.

There is so much more that I could write about, little details that I have learned about people taking second mortgages on their houses, investing money in her businesses only to loose everything they invested.  Stories from sales people who never got their commissions.

There is documented evidence to back up their claims but again, there are no soft facts beyond those of the alleged victims to go by.

There will most likely be a follow-up to this article as I continue attempting to get that the truth of who the founder of the Steel Horse Sisterhood Summit really is.

You see I am awaiting the findings from a private investigator that another writer has hired, and for the research department in Loveland Colorado's library to get some information to me that I am seeking.

I am also waiting for the story from yet another investor done wrong that surfaced yesterday.

And lastly I am waiting to hear about the newest law suits that are said to be forthcoming.

So - Who is Joan Krenning?

Is she truly a woman who is learning and growing from her mistakes?
The paper trail would suggest not.

Is she truly a spiritual and god loving American Patriot who creates meaningful American jobs?
The paper trail would suggest not.

From everything I have learned by reading documentation, emails, speaking with former employees, former partners, investors, and the government officials in Wisconsin, it appears that the talk and the walk of Joan Krenning are different from each other.

Perhaps she'll choose to have her side of the story told now.
I am sure that many others would like to know her side of things so that they have a complete "story" from which to base their decisions.

Have a great day and if you are blessed enough to live where you can be riding today, please remember to ride like everyone around you is blind and cannot see you.

Aliases for Joan Krenning:

This list does not include her maiden name or her Canadian married name

An Update:

The cheque for the Ride for Kids was unearthed and sent to us by one of Joan's people.
I am not sure why the executive director could not find the donation but perhaps he was searching for the wrong date range. The Summit happened in May and the cheque was dated for August but not cashed until October.  One mystery solved? Well know when I send the copy of the cheque to the charity for confirmation.

I sent the cheque for the charity to confirm and they have confirmed, that they did cash the cheque copy I was given.

Here is the Update I wrote on this controversy:
http://beltdrivebetty.blogspot.ca/2015/03/the-controversy-update.html

Another UPDATE:

BIG LIVES and the women who live them! Meet Lisa Brouwer

Lisa Brouwer of Sioux Falls South Dakota shared with me her story recently.

It is another story of a career banker who gave up corporate America and the illusion of security to do something that filled her soul while making a living. She wanted to truly enjoy her job and feel that she was giving back, contributing something worth while in the world.

Lisa was what she called a "Guilty Mom".  Having her first child at 30, she was in the pinnacle of her career with awards and rewards. BUT - She felt guilty about the time she was away from her kids, working, always working.

She realized that she was chasing the wrong success and she recognized how her life had shifted after she had kids. But she had missed the shift and that caused the guilty feelings.

Lisa told me the story of her college professor who had inspired her to be a public speaker.

She had stuffed that inspiration to the back of her mind, and many years later, she had a dream about that conversation and it reawaken in her, the dream of being a public speaker.

Lisa is a gal who, to use her own words, does not want to live a life of regret and so, she ditched a 21 year career and took courses and became a John Maxwell coach, a writer and a motorcycle safety trainer.

She spoke of the fear and the courage it took to leave the security of a career where she had attained a certain level of success, where people knew and respected her.

But, she is so happy that she did and she has NO REGRETS.

She knew she had to shift her ideas about what success was and attributes some of the mental strength and courage that it took to step out of her comfort zone to being a rider!

She expressed that getting on a motorcycle is one way that you can prove to yourself that, "Yes I can do this".

Among the many courses and coaching sessions she offers, the motivational speaking and coaching seminars she runs for women who ride, offer women an insight on how to take the lessons of inner courage and strength that riding offers and use it in their lives as mothers, care givers, wives, friends, employees and bosses.

"That courage, that strength translates into every aspect of your lives if you allow it to," says Lisa.
"Sharpening our skills, growing, learning, these are things that are critical to all of our lives, and motorcycling is no different from being a mom or a business owner in that regard!"

Lisa wants to encourage other women to embrace their dreams, fill their souls, fuel their lives.

She also talks about learning how to take stock, taking a pause and learning how to really listen to what your soul is trying to tell you.

"Don't stuff them, (your dreams) away in some dark recess of your mind.

Bring them out into the daylight, examine them and if the pull is still there, do something about it. Growth; the attainment of knowledge, skill, is a life long journey," says Lisa, "your either busy living or your busy dying."

Lisa Brouwer is a woman with a message!

Through her training as a John Maxwell coach, Lisa is sharing the message of empowerment and Full Throttle Living.

I deeply enjoyed getting to know Lisa on a more personal level.
She is; dynamic, open, approachable and genuine!

My interview with Liz Jansen of Ontario Canada is next, and I look forward to sharing her story with you!

Have a great day and please, if you are blessed to live where you can be riding today, remember to ride like everyone around you is blind and cannot see you!
