So VERY PROUD!

There is a group of kids in Moncton New Brunswick called the Bike Klub.

I have been a sponsor of what they do for a number of years. When I first heard about them, they were building bicycles. Their dream was to build motorcycles and through their attendance of the Canadian Championship of Bike Building in Wembley AB in 2006 they made some huge connections, were donated a frame by Mid-USA Canada and bits and pieces from Canadian Builders like Trickfactory, Cycle Boyz, Goldammer Cycle Works, HawgZotic and more.

Today they are true motorcycle builders. Today they are CHAMPIONS!

The Donnie Smith Invitational is a very prestigious show, not only did they win the Technical Merit award and Best Overall! They also placed 3rd in the Rigid Class - being pitted against 8 pro builders!

No small feat - their achievement is a feather not only in their own individual caps, but that of the teacher who never, ever gave up. Marc Mazerolle kept them first and foremost in all of his efforts and found the ways and means to ensure these kids could live their dream. His dedication needs to be hailed and held up as an example to teachers everywhere.

I myself was an honored and humbled human being when the Bike Klub named their first build after me. Now that "Betty" is an international championship ride....well, what's a girl supposed to say...I am so very proud of these kids and so proud to say I know them, support them and love them...I always have felt those things - they are special kids who are guided and mentored by a special teacher.

Canadian Championship of Bike Building Cancelled

Peter Tomko of Saxon Motorcycles announced yesterday that the 2008 Championships can not go ahead due to a disagreement between the organizer and the city. While not many details are available apparently the Town of Olds had some negative things to say about the 2007 Championships and so the City if East Selkirk has become wary.

So - the winner from the Western Championships will represent Canada in Sturgis at the World's.

It's so sad that Politics has to always be involved when it comes to motorcycle events but there yah are.

Getting internet access has been interesting and it is so nice to finally have it...

It has been an absolutely amazing time here. 2 of our Canadian builders out of 6 that attended the World's finished in the top 20!

Roger Goldammer won the Metric Championships with his bike "Experi Mental" and finished 9th in the freestyle with "Nortorious" and Cycle Boyz finished 17th with the "Master Deluxe"

Watch for the paper coming out on August 16th for more on the World Championship of Custom Bike Building.

I have had the most wonderful time here in Sturgis - meeting some of the most wonderful people in the motorcycle industry and I promise you that the next few papers are going to have some incredible interviews and pictures....stay tuned for more!

Home and still standing!

The 2007 Canadian Championship of Bike Building was a great time!

There were major last minute changes to the show due to injuries sustained by some of our performers. There was drama in both the Riding Beauties competition and the Canadian Championship of Bike Building!

After a severe hissy fit on Friday night, Mother Nature cooperated and in all we saw over 6000 visitors come to the show.
The severe weather warnings all weekend and the long weekend itself had a greater impact on visitation than we anticipated but in all we are not displeased with the results.

Our show date for next year is June 20th to 22nd in Olds and will be hosted in 2 new buildings that the Olds Agricultural Society is Building.

The new buildings afford us some wonderful additions to our show schedule and some very important security against mother nature.

We have a whole committee behind the show now - so I am no longer a one person operation when it comes to the Canadian Championships!

A whole new series of partnerships are also being explored as a result of the 2007 show and we could be more excited!

What a great event Regina hosted!

27 bikes in the competition and Jay and the gang from Freak show won the iron!

I want to thank the organizers of the Regina Custom Bike Show for all of their hard work and efforts, they did a great job for the first time and I look forward to next year.

Updates on the Canadian Championship of Bike Building in Olds

We now have pancake breakfasts both Saturday & Sunday from 7 am until 10 am!
Great music by Next Addiction 16 competition machines are already registered!
50 vendors and more....it's gonna be a lot of fun.

Ali has the campground pre-registration set up on the 2007 Championship site and you can pre-order your tickets for the event!

We have a Will Call Booth at the main gates for you to pick up your tickets.

Ladies - registrations for the Riding Beauties Contest are starting to come in - get yours in now for a shot at over $3,000 in prizes & Cash!

Well folks, I'll be going on the road again tomorrow! This time however I am taking my bike. Regina - the new home of the Western Canadian Championship of Bike Building! The show is completely sold out! Heather from Biker TV, Mondo from Denver Choppers - 34 competition machines....yes - it's gonna be a good time!

Laval was a blast!

Pascal Richard and his group put on a wicked show with awesome entertainment and some of the most incredible iron I have ever seen competed in the first Eastern Canadian Championship of Bike Building.

Our newly crowned champ is Jesy from Classic Steel with Daniel from V2 Obsession coming in in second place.

The Canadian Riding Beauties Contest

It was brought to my attention that we forgot to put the date on the poster.
It's the Canada Long weekend - during the Canadian Championship of Bike Building.
Hope that clears that up for everyone....

The Canadian Championship of Bike Building 2007

I have spent the last week in Olds working on our security and traffic flow plan as well as meeting with the local community service groups. Once the town of Olds groups decide where they want to fit into the show we will be looking to the motorcycle community for volunteers.

The Souls of Freedom have already spoken for the cashiers jobs and the Rock Riders out of Calgary have volunteered for security. We have gone to Alberta Justice to get clarification on the laws for volunteers security and it would appear we are OK using volunteers as long as they are not remunerated. Apparently, every event that pays volunteer security is in breach of the law and could be fined $200 and then there are fines for each person working! It would appear that the professional security companies resent volunteers making money at the job and have been complaining bitterly to Alberta Justice that paid volunteers are taking away their jobs - against the law. So now special events are under scrutiny.

The RCMP have asked us to prepare for 25,000 people because of the Highway 2 corridor.
Our estimates are that 15,000 people will come to the show, but they feel 25,000 is more realistic for the location - I hope they are right because special policing could cost as much as $20,000!

The community of Olds appears to be very excited that the show is coming to their town. I hope for this to be a long term relationship that will see us be allowed to borrow that community and it's facilities for a long time to come! The facilities are ideal and Olds even has a Timmy's... think I should warn them about the show like I did the hospital - so that they can be prepared?

As soon as we have the last details finalized we will begin loading in the tourism information on the 2007 Championship web site - have you seen what Suzie has done with that? Wow this gal works hard! It looks awesome.

Any way gang, I'm off to Vancouver today and hopefully home by Wednesday. I miss my husband and sleeping in my own bed....I love and hate bike show season.

Off to the Edmonton Motorcycle Show

This weekend I will be at the Leather & Steel Booth helping out, talking to builders about the Canadian Championships etc...

Next weekend is Red Deer but I have meetings in Red Deer and Calgary, so I will only be home for one day, the weekend after is Vancouver and I will finally be home for a bit again.
These shows tire a person out! But I love them....any way first round of new cards went out and yup - I have some mistakes to fix.

Suzie is a bit behind on some of the installs because of the wild and wooly weather we've been getting right across the west. She lives on the Island and they have been pretty hard hit with power outages and the like. Never fear, it will get done!

The Countdown is on

Well, the first Canadian Championship of Bike Building is less than 2 days away!

I'm nervous and excited! There is one dark spot in all of this and that is the Mayor of Grande Prairie and the Grande Prairie RCMP.

They are not happy that we are letting everyone wear their club riding gear, they have started posting signs about outlaw colors and making a fuss like we are all a bunch of hoodlums.....
Beaverlodge RCMP have just recently taken over the town of Wembley's policing duties and have had a very high presence in Wembley since they took over a little over a week ago.

I am asking you to be careful - please make sure your gear is legit and watch your throttle hand.
They are going to be out there in full force so DON'T take any chances - please!

I am posting the map of how to bypass Grande Prairie to avoid the worst of it, but remember - the police will be doing their jobs above and beyond because they don't like us, ride accordingly.

Other than that small fly in the ointment, mother nature seems to be smiling, and that's a good thing!
The Championship competition is going to be incredible with builders from New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the NWT, Alberta and BC competing! Chica, Tom Langton, Heather Ireland and the kids from the Bike Club arrive tomorrow, the press starts arriving tonight.....
