The PMS Blues - how to deal with it or support the one you love

Is your spouse or loved one a rider?

Are they surly? Short tempered? Not eating or sleeping well?

Have you been noticing that there are unexplained charges on your credit card and they all involve motorcycle parts and chrome bits?

Well, if you are noticing these symptoms in your loved one, then they are afflicted with PMS, Parked Motorcycle Syndrome.

This genetic Dis-Ease is responsible for so much grief and strife and sadly there is NO CURE.

Every person who loves motorcycles is born with what is known as the Motorcycle Gene.

That gene is responsible for both PMS and SSS.  

Shiny Shit Syndrome is the most debilitating of all of the symptoms of PMS.

Both PMS and SSS can only be treated with massive doses of motorcycle videos, photos, the riding of motorcycles - anything motorcycling related WILL have an impact in improving their disposition.

As PMS subsides, you should notice a diminishing of the SSS symptom of buying lots of parts and chrome bits, but that is not always the case.

For some PMS sufferers, their Shiny Shit Syndrome can kick in at any moment, especially at swap meets and dealerships, so ensure you have some free room on your credit card!
And Oh LORD - I almost forgot to mention the internet and online shopping - dangerous stuff when SSS kicks in!

We will be sharing 15% of the revenue from each of these tee shirts with our winners!

10% for first place (along with a virtual plaque) and 5% for second place (along with a virtual plaque) in each of the two categories.

We will accept entries from January 1, 2015 until February 20th, 2015.

We will open the contest up to public voting on February 21st and that will run until March 131st.

Beginning January 1, 2015 you can submit one of two kinds of stories:

1 - If you are a rider or passenger, submit your story about PMS and SSS and how it has devastated your life and what coping mechanisms you use.

2 - If you are a person who loves someone with PMS & SSS, then you can enter your story on how their Dis-Ease has affected your life and what you do to cope.

Submission guidelines:

Send us 600 words with up to 4 photos and a video(no more that 3 minutes long please or just a video submission of up to 3 minutes long. (Send us the URL to your video on YouTube and we will add it to our play list and display it in the contest page for people to vote on.)

PLEASE NOTE - If no tee shirts sell, there will be no funds or other prizes issued beyond a virtual plaque so share share share....

Prizes directly correspond to how many of each teeshirt sell. 
You do not need to buy a Tee Shirt to win.

All photos and videos created must be of your own creation or have proper attribution given to the person who helped you.

PMS has got a hold on me...

I have been working an average of 17 hours a day since mid December and to be frank I am crabby and over tired and still far from being caught up from the time it took to heal up after my motorcycle crash.

Since the middle of December, we here in Grande Prairie Alberta have accumulated a ton of snow, have seen extreme high winds, freezing rain and tee shirt weather all with 24 hours of each other.

The Farmer's Almanac says that we will get more snow in March than we have had all winter, wow, another 5-6 feet of the white crap in March.  It's already been the worst winter for snowfall in over 20 years up here!

Mother Nature's bipolar ways have me in a PMS funk like never before.

Yes, PMS has got a hold on me like never before and I am turning to you, my community, for your help.

Indian has entered the market in India, there is also a first ride review of the new Chieftan
Triumph has opened a new dealership in India and plans on 9 more.
Ducati is also in the news with a Panigale 899 ride review and feature on the factory for the 1199 Panigale.

The Hells Angels are also in the news today.
In Quebec there is now a second officer being investigated for leaking information to the Hells Angels, and also from Quebec comes the headline that the Hells Angels have won a major supreme court ruling.

I got an email from Sturgis Canada promoting giveaways at the Vancouver Motorcycle Show this weekend. I guess their email marketing team hasn't purged me from the Sturgis Canada(North) mailing list even though the owners, Ray and Joan are suing me.  I want to thank Jean Cameron and the gals from the Cumberland Motorcycle Round Up and my good friend Bill Braham for running the Vancouver booth for me.

I do not think I could have concentrated on the show and my job if I would have had to be in close proximity to the people suing me.

I am still accepting donations to the defense fund as I need to raise $15K or so.  It irks my pride having to ask for help, but I have no choice, our community newspaper needs your support.

I'm probably not going to be too popular today.

The results are in on our 6th Annual Beat the PMS Blues Online Show ‘n’ Shine.

We will announce the winners in the newsletter that your newspaper comes in, tomorrow morning.

I will be contacting the winners and organizing for their prizes to go out. 

I have some things to say, they are hard to say but they must be said.

There are a few people who made this, our sixth annual - FREE Show 'n' Shine hard to deal with - they took all of the fun out of it for me.  

You see I truly love seeing all of the entries and knowing what my friends and other community members ride. I get a kick out of it and it really does ease up some of the dreadful PMS that I suffer with - Parked Motorcycle Syndrome, for those not in the know.

When we do it again next year there will be some measures put in place just for those who think they need to win at all cost.  Or they think someone is cheating so they should too, to win.

People do not seem to understand the power of social media and if one person has lots of friends voting for them, their tallies go up - fast. 

There is a right way and a wrong way to win. This is the right way, getting your FRIENDS to vote for you.

Everyone was encouraged to contact us if they had any issues. 

Many people did, their problems or challenges resolved, one rider had friends that Sasktel was blocking from accessing our site for some unknown reason, he emailed us, we verified the problem and worked through friends, to get the issue with Sasktel resolved, and he gave us the names and phone numbers of people who were having trouble voting for him and he was given the appropriate number of votes.

We verified that their IP's had been showing up consistently and then all of a sudden all 5 stopped.

We do everything in our power to keep it fair and real.

We can tell you if some one is cheating or not by the IP addresses that they use and the time stamp.

When someone has 50 or 60 friends voting for them and they all have different IP addresses – there is no cheating.

However when you see the same IP on the show 'n'shine page 25 and 30 times a day.... 

We remove those votes, we email the offender and tell them they were removed – so there really was no point to the effort. And this of course, would therefore be, the wrong way to try to win.

The reason I no longer do calendar contests is for a similar sort of reason.

Back biting, name calling, horrid, horrid behavior from people who are supposed to be adults and of course the attempts at cheating.

I hold contests for FREE – the prizes, we spend hours and days gathering, the labor it takes to host a contest is mind numbing - we do it because we want to have some fun, lighten things up – we have enough grief and enough challenges to deal with every day as riders and people. 

Does it help our business – yes, but my primary purpose, especially with this contest, is to have some FUN.

BUT - there comes a time when one really has to look at the whole thing and ask yourself – is it worth it?

Our community is based on the fundamental principles of life – being respectful is one of them and another is standing up for what you believe in.

Well I believe in fair play.

I believe that if I don’t like what someone has to say, I don’t need to take it in to my soul and then lash out hatefully. 

I believe that if someone is a jerk, you don’t keep poking them – you walk away and give them no energy.

Soon enough, they go away.

These are but a few of the core and fundamental values of being a good human being, I believe.

I have never pussyfooted around an issue that was important to me, much in my life.  

I listen to other people’s opinions, I decide what if anything they have to say resonates with my core values, makes sense to me on any level and look to understand their point of view, but understanding their point of view and adopting it or taking it into my soul are two different things. Understanding lets me hopefully find a better way of working towards a resolution to a challenge but I do not have to take that person's viewpoint on as mine in order to work to a resolution.

AND I am not pussyfooting around this issue either.

RESPECT is one word that I believe in and the disrespect shown to Ali who busts her hump, our sponsors who supply the prizes blows my mind.  

As the idiot who does all of the legwork; the obtaining sponsors, the emails and letters, the promoting – I am just discouraged. 

Next year will be far, far different.

We will be putting in every safe guard we can find to ensure a FRIENDLY AND FUN contest. 

And if we can’t find a way to prevent the nastiness – then we won’t be doing it again. 

I do not get paid enough to put up with some of the situations I have been put in over this.

This was supposed to be a fun thing. 

But there were some people who took the fun out of it for me.

That won’t happen again – I do not do things like this unless they make people feel good. PERIOD.

Our Beat the PMS Blues On Line Show 'n' Shine and other interesting tid bits

Voting for this year's show 'n' shine ended at midnight on March 6th. Because of the challenges using the new gallery and voting system at the beginning of the show 'n' shine - we had tacked on a few extra days to make sure no one felt cheated.

We are the first group I believe to ever host an on line show 'n' shine and it is challenging. We have done this three times now and finally have a gallery that we like as it makes voting, simple fast and easy.

While we had to educate people on how to make their pictures smaller over all I am really pleased with how this worked and it is the system we are going to use again next year.

We have had a few people upset as they did not like/agree with how the gallery determines which bike wins in each category - but Ali and I are thrilled.

The gallery does all of the work - it takes into consideration all of the votes - and the ratings and it comes up with the math. Ali and I do not get involved in any of the vote counting or winner determinations - the gallery does it ALL!

I don't really like the terminology the gallery itself uses (Top Rated) as I think that is what created the confusion for the two people who have voiced displeasure at how things have gone - but over all for a FREE event, I think most people had a ton of fun and it was a great way to assuage the PMS Blues for a while. For me it was a great way to see the rides of my Internet family! I hope the winner's gallery is done today - we had been optimistic in thinking we could have it done by yesterday afternoon...

The winners are going to be able to send E Cards to all of their friends to boast about their win and say thank you for the votes they got!!!

We will be emailing all of the prize donors and the winners this week so that they can make arrangements for their gifts and next week we will be featuring the bikes that won.

In the news today:
An accident in Pitt Meadows that saw two people killed had speed as a contributing factor. Police have identified both victims but have not released their names.

Cpl. Monty Robinson is scheduled to appear in Surrey at the Provincial Courthouse tomorrow.
If you can attend this peaceful protest rally - please - your participation is far more important than you may realize.

There is an URGENT plea to get involved with voicing your displeasure over proposed changes to our Old Age Security Pension and it's qualification periods. Apparently they are trying to change the time from 10 years to 3 years for an immigrant to be able to apply. Effectively that means that people who only live in our country for three years (age 62), who have contributed nothing to our country by way of economic value can apply for Canada Old Age Pension at 65....read the proposal yourself and then please -write a letter, do something - I would like the pension around when I need it - but it might not be if these changes are allowed.

While the Winter Olympics was great for Canada on a number of levels there were some Canadians that it wasn't so good for...read Iron Maiden's letter to see what I mean.

 
It's cold and supposed to snow here today so I won't be riding - but if you are PLEASE, ride like everyone around you is out to get you, blind and can not see you and use respect with that right hand...

An interesting day in the news...

There are some mornings that I sift through the news from the mutlitude of sources that are out there and go wow, not much happening and what is, is boring. Then there are mornings like this one where the news is interesting and thought provoking.

Gilby Clarke - the former bassist for Guns n Roses was injured in a motorcycle crash...
OCC has managed to stay in the spotlight with their new hybrid motorcycle, it appears that Paul Sr has partnered with Lawless Industries on this project.
Here in Alberta The Second Gear Club is having to postpone their race at Chestermere due to the warm weather.
In Ontario they are gearing up for the Toronto Super Show - Wished that I was going but alas...anyway the 31st annual MAX Awards are bing handed out - see who is getting an award...

So what is thought provoking in the news today?
For me it is the rapid advancements that are taking place with motorcycles and hybrid, bio diesel and electrics.

Two years ago these ideas were in the distant future - today they are becoming reality and that distant future is upon us!I would love to hear your thoughts on the advancements that are being made...even if it is Paul Sr that appears to be pushing a lot of stuff forward...

I am on the road today heading toward Edmonton. I will be dropping off our community directory to a number of our business partners along the way and ending up in Leduc at my girlfriend Sandra's place.

Tomorrow will be set up for the Edmonton Motorcycle Show.  Not sure how Edmontonians are going to stack up against |Calgarians in the hugs department but I am eager to find out.

The 2010 Calgary Motorcycle Show

Well, I made it in to Calgary, got to the Round Up Centre and guess what!
For once ALL of my marketing materials are here - the phone books arrived in one piece, my new key chains, bandanas and hats are here. All of my stuff for MotoRescue made it here. It's a thing of beauty when that happens! Trucking companies, couriers...they can be tough to deal with. Alanna from Artatude sent me some stuff that never showed - she ripped the courier company a new one and voila everything is here!

My hug meter has started to move rapidy which is also a good thing! If you are in Calgary and don't stop by my booth I will be some pissed when I find out. LOL - I sound like someone's grandma! But seriously - I want to see as many of you as I can because we don't see each other often enough.

We are getting more prizes for the Beat the PMS Blues on line Show 'n' Shine - I am so stoked with how the business community is supporting our show!  Maybe next year we should charge a little something and donate it to charity...what would all of you think about that...or maybe we should just leave it as it is - a way to have a lttle fun and beat the winter BLAHS!

Our 3rd Annual "Beat the PMS Blues On Line Show n Shine"

Well gang, we are three days away.

On January 1st you will be able to enter your motorcycle into our on line show n shine - up to 10 photos per bike and YES it really needs to be your own bike - PLEASE - you can enter a bike for a friend who is without a computer/computer access but you must supply us with their contact information!

We have prizes from pretty much coast to coast.

I am waiting to hear from the Pig 'n' Fin on Vancouver Island, Atlanticade in St Andrews NB and the River Rat Rally in Gananoque ON. The only province/territories we don't have prizes from is the NWT, YT, Newfoundland , PEI and Manitoba from what I can see...I am humbled by the response so far!

Anyhow - Ali is working her fingers off ... January 1st is the date!

Voting on the bikes will begin February 1st so make sure you get your bikes in January and then get your friends to come and vote for your bikes! And Please, don't wait until the 29th and crash our server like happened last year - we give you a month to enter so that our server doesn't get over loaded!

There was nothing of real note in the news today so no serious or heavy discussions.

5 months of bank statement reconciliations to complete today and I should finally for the first time in 4 years - actually be caught up on most stuff and working to move things forward instead of always playing catch up. That will make 2010 a banner year for me - not playing catch up - what a CONCEPT! YEE HAW!

As I reflect on the last few years and see how far I have come, the things that I have over come and learned, the things I have lived through and experienced...wow. I surprise even me!

2 computer crashes, re doing my books from scratch not once but twice - once because the accountant's copy and mine wouldn't merge and the other because of a computer crash.

The crap in GP over the bike show, the crap in Wembley over the bike show and the crap in Olds over the bike show... My husband being diagnosed with MS, becoming a non smoker after 38 years - a warning to Champix users - while they sure helped me to quit smoking they also caused a bit of a - for the lack of a better term - "mini nervous break down" or "depression" or some such stuff as I had a few experiences that I would not normally have and did do a few things that I would not normally do - whatever it was it was weird and I am glad to be over it!. Almost three months as a non smoker now! The challenges I faced when borrowing a bike and the attacks against me and my business over it. 

Yup, it's been an interesting and character building time.

I guess that is the one most amazing thing about life, nothing is static, it moves, shifts and changes steadily! I feel so much more in control of me, my emotions and my dreams & goals - I did not know it was possible to feel this way. I am grateful for the learning that has taken place and the learning yet to come. Embracing change instead of fearing it - that is sooo liberating!

Another busy week ahead

Although the news feeds are for the moment relatively quiet, I am busy like a beaver as is Ali.

She is putting the finishing touches on our Great Canadian Day Ride's Site upgrade. Over the next couple of months we will finally have all of our articles in there and we will be hosting some contests for that site as well.
