Blackjacks Roadhouse

At the Edmonton Motorcycle Show, Ride Like a Local ran into Krysta Shields, a Rider Friendly Business Partner, from Blackjacks Roadhouse.

Blackjacks Roadhouse is a huge part of the community.  Famous for its Tuesday Bike nights, they have established itself as one of he best biker friendly facilities for poker runs and charity rides in Western Canada.

Blackjacks Roadhouse hosts many major charity bike runs such as the Edmonton Ride for Dad, Ride for Sight, Ride for Mom, Wounded Warriors, Military Minds as well as numerous local club rides and events.

They are also the home and meeting place for numerous clubs such as BACA (Bikers against Child Abuse), Rig Riders and the Black gold Beamers (BMW). They offer their 100 seat second floor meeting area free of charge to all bike clubs.

While at the Edmonton Motorcycle Show, RIde Like a Local surprised Krysta with a beginners course from the Edmonton office of the Alberta Safety Council.  We sure hope to see this girl on a bike soon!

Neil MacDonald of Harley Davidson Edmonton


Ride Like a Local interviewed Neil MacDonald of Harley Davidson Edmonton.  He was excited to tell us all about the new Softail lineup.  The new lineup is all redesigned with a new motor, suspension and new frame.  Choose your motor from the Milwaukee 8 107 or 114.

A tragic and joyful Saturday for motorcyclists

There are reports in the news feed of three fatalities and two injuries so far this weekend.

In Ontario, one rider is dead after a crash on the 400 and 2 are dead following a crash on the 17.

In Nova Scotia a rider is in hospital following a crash on Herring Cove Road.

The Heroes Highway Ride was a resounding success in spite of a crash that saw one rider injured.

My heart breaks every time I read of a fellow rider dying or being injured.

The weekend so far has been filled with some heartwarming stories too...

In the Philippines, riders set THREE world records!

In Estonia, the largest gathering of riders in Europe is underway.

In Kitchener Ontario, the Ride for Dad raised $130,000 and 743 motorcyclists took part!

There are so many motorcycle events taking place today and I am asking everyone who rides in a group ride to please, keep a safe distance between you and the rider ahead of you, be hyper vigilant and aware.

Thieves - they are despicable

If you read the news feeds on www.beltdrivebetty.com on the Busted Knuckle News Page you will see that some low life or low life's have stolen somewhere around $22,000 from the Ride for Dad.

I know that times have been tough but really - stealing from a charity that helps so many people???

It sickens me and I hope the creep/s get caught.

In other news I am having to rearrange my riding schedule as hubby has taken a turn for the worst. Mike "Ironbutt" Bergeron, our Southern Alberta Rep will be taking my place at the Calgary Ride for Dad, Barry "Ladyslayer" Koenig our Central Alberta Rep will work the Ride for Sight in Olds along with Mike for me.

Barry will also be doing the OCC Chopper ride in Edmonton on Monday at Alberta Cycle for me after he gets back from the Border Rally in Lloydminister this weekend.

I will still be at the Redwater Ride for Hunger but heading home immediately after.

It is not often that my husband asks for help or admits that he needs it so I am going home - family first.

The rest of my riding season will depend on what the neurologist at the U of A tells us on Wednesday. It's a waiting game now and we'll just have to wait for some test results.

I know after spending time with Mike, he'll do a great job with ad sales and event coverage so I am leaving here with things in good hands.
